Google’s Street View Cameras
Currently available in five cities, the “Street View” function of Google Maps displays a 360-degree panorama of any location on the map — as if you were standing in the middle of the street and turning in a circle.
This revolutionary new camera was designed by Immersive media, the leading full motion, high rosultion, interactive spherical video platform and production services.

They use a Dodeca 2360 camera system uses 11 video streams capturing high resolution 360 degree view at 30 frames per second of surroundings that is seamlessly stitched together.
Only recently I discovered that our neighbor is driving a google street car, I look forward to quizzing him about the technology!
Later, photos can be extracted and stitched together to form pictures with a resolution of 2400 by 1200 pixel—a frame which is bigger than any high-definition image.
But at $45,000 for the camera, twice that with mounts and a base unit that processes images in real time, plus anywhere from $125 to $700 per mile of video footage, the rig doesn’t come cheap.
I also found others ways people have put 360 video to use.
